ICA Services History
As early as 1994, Hilarie Cash and Jay Parker began to see and hear about people whose lives were in turmoil because they appeared to be addicted to computers and various aspects of the internet. Curious, they began to research the phenomenon. They found, scattered around the USA, a few other clinicians and researchers who, like themselves, recognized and were beginning to address the computer addiction phenomenon. That early interest led to the formation, in 1999, of Internet/Computer Addiction Services. Since then, they have become nationally recognized experts in their field, appearing in documentaries, television and radio news casts, and in the print media. They run outpatient treatment programs for sex/love addicts and video game addicts, train other professionals, speak to parents and educators, and write on the subject.
